The Residential School System
The Residential School System in Canada was a national institutional effort of forced assimilation of the different peoples under the idea of one National culture. At first, it started in 1831 in the hands of Christian Churches in Canada, with responsibility and management taken over by the Canadian State in 1969.

Healing Process1998
January 7- Statement of Reconciliation issued by Jane Stuart, the Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs with the establishment of a $350 000 000 fund March 31- Aboriginal Healing Foundation established, 4 years to diserse fund with projects and 6 years to monitor the projects 2000 Legacy of Hope Foundation established, to sustain the process of healing after the Aboriginal Healing Foundation's mandate ends. |
